A shooting took place at Wesley Chapel Movie Theater in Florida last Monday at 1:30PM.  A male moviegoer, Chad Oulson, was texting during the movie, the man behind him, Curtis Reeves, a retired police officer, objected and asked the texter to put his phone away.  The two argued several times, according to police and witnesses, and Oulson watched as Reeves walked out of the theater apparently seeking a theater employee to complain about the texting.

When Reeves returned, he was without a manager.  Oulson, got up, turned to Reeves and asked if he had gone to tell on him for texting.  Oulson reportedly said, “I was just sending a message to my young daughter.”

Voices were raised, popcorn was thrown, and then the most unexpected thing occurred: a gun shot.  Oulson was fatally wounded.  His wife was hit too, through the hand.

It just so happened that an off-duty deputy sheriff was among the 25 people at the theater.  He rushed to the scene to make sure no more shoots were fired and the shooter stayed put.  It also happened that two nurses were there, and one came to Oulson’s side and preformed CPR until paramedics arrived.  Oulson later died.  His wife suffered from non-life threatening wounds.
