According to the Huffington Post,  CBS released an official statement on April 10 announcing that host of The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert, will be taking over as host for the Late Show on CBS, in place of David Letterman, who is retiring from the Late Show in 2015.

The 66 year-old David Letterman has hosted the Late Show for 22 years, and had previously hosted the Late Night Show on NBC for 11 years, making a total of 33 years of hosting late night TV shows.  Letterman told CBS president Leslie Moonves a month ago, “Leslie, it’s been great, you’ve been great, and the network has been great, but I’m retiring.”  Who could blame him?

Colbert is currently CBS’s first choice to replace Letterman next year, and with Colbert’s contract with Comedy Central also ending next year, it makes it very convenient for both parties.  Being a comedian, Colbert commented on CBS’s decision, “I’m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.”  Letterman also added a comedic comment, “Stephen has always been a real friend to me. I’m very excited for him, and I’m flattered that CBS chose him. I also happen to know they wanted another guy with glasses.”
